about
Musician, guitarist and producer Harry Jay-Steele presents his debut single ‘Reach You’ via Naim Records (home to Mercury-nominated Eska). The track has been co-produced by Harry and Alex Burey (Loyle Carner/Sundara Karma) and was mastered by the legendary John Dent (PJ Harvey/Massive Attack/Tom Vek).
Harry cites abstract beat king Flying Lotus and symphonic funk arranger David Axelrod as influences. “I love that big sound, there’s definitely an element of that,” he says of the latter. “I always loved ’70s production.”
Harry’s music carves out a genre all of it’s own. Combining an eclectic range of influences from Soul, African Rhythm and Contemporary classical arrangements to modern pop, he has created an emotive and grand sound that encompasses an array of genres.
‘Reach You’ finds him incorporating programmed beats amidst the mellifluous keys and John Martyn-esque double bass, the track driven along by house music kicks and finger clicks..
Describing ‘Reach You’ Harry says: "I wrote ‘Reach You’ on a loop pedal with my guitar initially but it really evolved into a song on the computer. It’s a song about a journey, the fears, joy and sorrow that can create in someone - I'll leave it there for other people to take away what they get from it lyrically.”
lyrics
Lyrics:
Us people struggling through
Down to the oceans and up to you
I never thought i’d sell it all to sea to reach you
I never thought i’d see the kind of things i’ve seen now
I’ve waited for so long
Just for a minute there i thought i’d gone
But now i’m here to take it all the way to see you
Yes now i’m here to take it all the way to reach you
Crushing through the white cliffs of dover
Heading out st pancras october
I can see the light shining over
Call on through
I’ve walked this land so far
Over through desert
And follow north star
I never thought i’d make it all the way so near
I’ve waited for so long
Just for a minute there i thought i’d gone
But now i’m here to take it all the way to see you
Yes now i’m here to take it all the way to reach you
Reach
Crushing through the white cliffs of dover
Heading out st pancras october
I can see the light shining over
Call on through
I’m on a b-line on the fastest train to see you
I’m on a b-line on the fastest train to reach you
Crushing through the white cliffs of Dover
Heading out st pancras October
I can see the light shining over
Call on through
